Book Club Friday

Linking up for another Book Club Friday
I finished 2 books this past week.

One Breath Away by Heather Gudenkauf

Synopsis:  In her most emotionally charged novel to date, New York Times bestselling author Heather Gudenkauf explores the unspoken events that shape a community, the ties between parents and their children and how the fragile normalcy of our everyday life is so easily shattered. In the midst of a sudden spring snowstorm, an unknown man armed with a gun walks into an elementary school classroom. Outside the school, the town of Broken Branch watches and waits.

Officer Meg Barrett holds the responsibility for the town's children in her hands. Will Thwaite, reluctantly entrusted with the care of his two grandchildren by the daughter who left home years earlier, stands by helplessly and wonders if he has failed his child again. Trapped in her classroom, Evelyn Oliver watches for an opportunity to rescue the children in her care. And thirteen-year-old Augie Baker, already struggling with the aftermath of a terrible accident that has brought her to Broken Branch, will risk her own safety to protect her little brother.

As tension mounts with each passing minute, the hidden fears and grudges of the small town are revealed as the people of Broken Branch race to uncover the identity of the stranger who holds their children hostage.

I really loved this booked. I finished it in a day and a half. The author tells the book in multiply characters perspective. At first it was hard for me to remember who was who, but once I got in to the heart of the book it was easier to start remembering.

The 2nd Book I read was
Matched by Ally Condie

Matched (Matched, #1)
Synopsis:
Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate... until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.

The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow

I really enjoyed this book. If you liked the Hunger Games then you will like this series.
I want to continue the series. There are 2 more books

Have a great weekend everyone!

Gossip & Midwest Bloggers

Catching up on the celebrity gossip.

I'm sure we have all heard now about Reese Witherspoon and her incident.
I have to say I lost a few point of respect with her. Pulling the celebrity card.

Justin Bieber & wearing masks.
Oh Biebs, what are you doing?
You say you do it so the paparazzi can't get pics of you but you are just drawing more attention to yourself!

Melissa Gilbert wearing a red dress for her wedding.
So what? If she wants to wear red, let her. Ya know?

Teen Mom Jenelle gets arrested for possession of heroin, assault, other illegal substances, and a warrant for not paying child support.
This girl is just bad news. She will never learn. like ever.

Jenelle Evans' mugshot after her arrest for heroin possession and alleged assault.

And another Teen Mom Farrah makes a sex tape.
Oh Farrah, I don't even know what to say...

Farrah Abraham gets back to mommy duties with a trip to the beach with daughter Sophia following her sex tape shocker. The 21-year-old MTV reality star wore a colorful green and teal bikini as she frolicked in the sand and by the water with her 4 year old daughter.

Also please stop by Miranda's blog regarding the date of the Midwest blogger meet up in Chicago this summer. (6/22/13)
If there are any Wisconsin bloggers who are going and want to car pool I am willing to drive so feel free to email and we can figure something out.
This is going to be sooo fun! I can't wait!!

First Things First

First Things First

This week's topics are:

* First thing you would do/buy if you won the lottery
* First person you call when you get amazing news
* First thing you do when you've had a bad day

If I won the lottery the first thing I would do/buy:
Pay off all our debt.
Call me lame or not fun but being debt free would be amazeballs.
IF this were a big winning, I would definitely travel.

First person you call when you get the amazing new:
Assuming the husband knew I would call my Mom, asap.

First thing you do when you've had a bad day:
Probably Cry
Vent to my husband
Snuggle with the pups
Put on some pj's and eat junk food
Text the besties

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

I hadn't originally planned on this post today but I was inspired by a post that a fellow blogger who I have come to love reading posted today. Christina at Mascara&Madness posted this video today.

I have to say I was moved.
As someone who has and still currently struggles with her own self-esteem I could imagine what my image would look like.
Please take the time to watch this video, I think it's no more then 3 minutes.

I'm always picking and putting myself down.
To fat, ugly hair, face blemishes, etc.
We all need to remember that we are beautiful in our own way.
This world would be a boring place if we were the same.
Embrace your own beauty.
Learn to love yourself.

Thank you Christina for sharing this today.

Movie Review Monday

As you all know by now I am a movie junkie.
So I thought I would review some movies that I have recently seen.
(all opinions of the following movies are my own)

Red Dawn

My Grade: D
I should have known this movie was going to be bad. It was actually done being filmed in 2010 but they shelved it for 2 years. I can see why. Supposedly the original was good (Patrick Swayze, etc) however I've never seen the first one. I felt this movie was really choppy, bad acting, and the ending was awful!

The Hobbit

My Grade: C
Holy Hannah this movie was long and never ending. 2 hours and 50 minutes! They could have easily cut the movie down by 40 minutes. I really liked the LOTR trilogy so I had high hopes for the hobbit. Too long, and too many pointless drawn out scenes.

The Sessions:
My Grade: C/D

I know your thinking, gosh did she watch any good movies?
No. lol. This movie was really different and also depressing.

Game of Thrones Season 2:

My Grade: B

The season started off a little slow for me but really picked up at the end (of course).
I hate the entire Lannister family but they make good villains.
Well I actually like Tyrion Lannister. He cracks me up.
If you don't watch this show, you should rent it!

It's Ok Thursday

Its Ok Thursdays

It's ok...that the house needs to be cleaned yet again and I'm not going to do it.

It's ok...that I love Nashville's music

It's ok...that I bought a bag of rice and it tasted like plastic. It was only $1

It's ok...that Vince Vaughn is hosting SNL this weekend, because he cracks me up!

It's ok...that I was a little bitchy towards an inmate last night, but trust me he deserved it!

It's ok...that tomorrow night is just a nice simple date night with the husband, dinner, couch, pups and movies!

It's ok...that the driveway is covered in hard snow and we refuse to shovel in hopes that it will just "melt"

I'm Tired of Her!

I'm sure you are wondering what the hell my title post means.
Well please let me tell you.
So...I work with one of the most annoying people in the entire world.
Let's call her "sam"
Sam discovered a few years ago that she has a desmoid tumor. She has gone through many surgeries and kemo pills to shrink the tumor.
While off of work from her surgery's she became a health nut.
She said she researched for days upon days about what foods cause cancer and what horrible things soda, meat, milk, etc can do for you.
That's when she became as I call her "the health Nazi"
Yes. Now prior to this "Sam" ate just like the rest of us.
She always had starbucks frappes, popcorn, etc.

But, ever since doing her research she has done an almost 180 on what she eats.
Good for her!
However....
she feels the need to tell you/dissect every single thing you eat and tell you how bad it is for you.
Oh MY FREAKING GOD!
Seriously?
For example, the other day I was eating a lean cuisine at work, and she proceeds to take the box and point how much trans fat and sodium and shit is in it.
Ok, thank you. Back the fuck off! (Pardon the language)
Another co worker was drinking a soda. And she proceeded to tell him how bad soda is and all the sugar and blah blah. As if he didn't know that.
It's just getting annoying. I feel the need to hide my food when I'm at work because I'm afraid of her seeing it.
She also drinks this stuff called 'black water' which had a higher alkaline content in it or something?
I think it's great she is conscious of what she eats but she has no tact as to how to tell others what they are eating isn't healthy for them.
I mean come on! It's everyone's own decision on what they want to eat.
Unhealthy or not.
On top of that she will get on a rant about stuff and I just want to yell shut up! Ok I don't care that this box of sour patch kids I'm eating is could give me diabetes! You know what? I like it, I enjoy it, and if every now and then I want some sour patch kids, well then by gosh I am going to eat them!
I know you probably are thinking I am blowing this out of proportion but I swear I'm not.
I mean the other day she was telling me I shouldn't dip my veggies in ranch dressing.
GRRR!
