Friday was a busy day. I worked until 2am. Got home at 3am.
Woke up at 6am to leave for a funeral. We had some bad storms heading our way so we left at 630am to get ahead of them. Luckily we did and only got the rain end while we were drove 2 1/2hrs. After my husbands Grandma's funeral we went to have a lunch together as a family at a German restaurant in Sheboygan called AlandAls.
It was there that I found out they would be having a dachshund race
at octoberfest.
Yes, we will be entering Gracie in to the race!
After lunch we headed down to Milwaukee to meet our newest edition to the Kasberger family. Aria Lillian!
Let me tell you! She is light as a feather! And toooo cute!
Saturday we went to my husband co workers wedding.
The wedding was fun.
The colors they chose were so pretty
We came home around 10 and decided to watch some episodes of
Arrested Development.
Sunday we decided it was going to be our "lazy" day.
I didn't get out of my pj's until 5pm so we could go to the store and pick up
a few groceries. We came home and grilled out.
Ate some Amazing food and had a ice cold glass of Crystal light pink lemonade.
We wrapped up the weekend by watching The Killing.
I debated for the longest time weather to right a post about this or not.
I was/am afraid of losing friends or people being mad.
But you know what? Sometimes you just need to stand up for what is right.
So here is the story:
A few weeks ago I was mopping an entrance to the jail. There was a huber inmate who was sitting on the bench waiting for a male officer to change him over to go back upstairs to the Huber pod.
He said to me, "you get stuck doing the dirty work" I said yeah I do, hehe.
I asked him what he was in jail here for. He became quiet.
I told him you don't have to tell me.
He said no. He said he's in jail because his boyfriend was 17 at the time and he was 21 when they were dating.
His bf's parents didn't like that he was gay so turned him in for having sex with a minor.
He is now a registered sex offender.
Serving 6 months in jail.
5 years probation.
Say what you will that isn't the point of this post.
I heard him say his "boyfriend"
after talking to him for a while I said I wish you and your boyfriend all the luck in the world.
He looked at me and said, "you are ok with that"
And I thought are you kidding me? Of course.
I told him of course, and that I wish the rest of the states would follow with allowing for marriage equality.
A tear fell down his cheek.
He said thank you.
So I let the tear roll down my cheek.
I told him you don't have to thank me.
It's what is right.
I'm sure if some of my fellow employees heard this they would throw a fit.
Twenty years ago, when they were teenagers, Holly and Nicola were the outsiders at summer camp. Holly was the plump one, a dreamer who longed to be an artist. Nicola was the shy, plain one who wanted nothing more than to be beautiful. Their cabin nemesis was Lexi. Rich, spoiled, evil Lexi. One night, Holly and Nicola team up to pull one, daring act of vengeance. But they never dream that this one act will have repercussions that will reach into the future, even twenty years later. And they never realize the secret pain that Lexi holds very close, and how their need for revenge costs Lexi a great deal. Today, Holly is a successful gallery owner, who has put her own artistic dreams on hold. She struggles with her weight and for approval from her constantly-criticizing boyfriend. Nicola, is an almost-famous actress who believes that one little plastic surgery fix is just what she needs to put her over the edge into fame. And Lexi…Lexi is down on her luck and totally broke. Holly will do anything to be thin. Lexi will do anything to be rich. And Nicola will do anything to be pretty. Thin, Rich, Pretty is the story of three women who believe that happiness is the next dress size down, the next dollar figure up, or the next appreciative glance from a stranger. But mostly it’s the story of how three women save each other, and show each other the path to true contentment. Told with Beth Harbison’s knack for thirty and fortysomething nostalgia, and heartwarming humor, Thin, Rich, Pretty will strike a chord with any woman who has ever got on the scale, looked in the mirror, or the bank, and said, “if only…” (via goodreads)
Overall I would give this book a C
Not my favorite of hers but a easy light read
I felt that with Lexi's character they focused on her past but never really told you why her Dad cut her off or his reasoning.
The author also made her fall in love to fast with the help guy.
If you are looking for just a light short read, this is your book.
Beth Harbison is a great author.
My favorite book of hers is Always Something There to Remind Me
Being the big nerd I am, I am blogging about an amazing book a fellow blogger lent me called Slammed by Colleen Hoover.
Nerd Alert.
OMG
Synopsis: Following the unexpected death of her father, 18-year-old Layken is forced to be the rock for both her mother and younger brother. Outwardly, she appears resilient and tenacious, but inwardly, she's losing hope.
Enter Will Cooper: The attractive, 21-year-old new neighbor with an intriguing passion for slam poetry and a unique sense of humor. Within days of their introduction, Will and Layken form an intense emotional connection, leaving Layken with a renewed sense of hope.
Not long after an intense, heart-stopping first date, they are slammed to the core when a shocking revelation forces their new relationship to a sudden halt. Daily interactions become impossibly painful as they struggle to find a balance between the feelings that pull them together, and the secret that keeps them apart.
I have never read a book this fast in my life. I was done with this book in 3 hours.
That's how good it was!
I immediately fell in love with Will and Layken. I was take aback by the thing that slammed their relationship to a halt. DID NOT SEE IT COMING.
I recommend this book to anyone. It's an easy read.
Now I have to go to barnes and noble and see if I can find the next book that continues after this one called Point of Retreat
Synopsis: Hardships and heartache brought them together…now it will tear them apart.
Layken and Will have proved their love can get them through anything; until someone from Will’s past re-emerges, leaving Layken questioning the very foundation on which their relationship was built. Will is forced to face the ultimate challenge…how to prove his love for a girl who refuses to stop ‘carving pumpkins.
Have any of you read slammed? Did you love it like I did?
